On this the 11th hour of the 11 day of the eleventh month we pause to commemorate the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war and its held on the tt is the 11th of November to recall the end of World War I at that time and date. While here in Australia the day is eclipsed by Anzac day it never the less carries a lot of meaning.
In Hobart with the graves of the fallen far away, a memorial row of trees was planted to commemorate each of the fallen from the first world war. More recently plagues were placed giving details of each of the fallen. Passing along part of the path i came upon this plague remembering William Conway who was killed in action at Pozieres on the 25 July 1916 at the age of 27 years, 11 months. and is buried in Pozieres British Cemetery, France. Unlike many of the fallen, his plague is visited by family with flowers left and a poem to a Grandfather that they never knew.
Rest in Peace Private Conway.
