PayPerPost thoughts

The idea of concepts such as PayPerPost is an interesting one. Bloggers are paid to post about particular topics by meeting various requirements including post length and tone and in return are paid for their post after its been online for 30 days. PayPerPost is by no means unique either with other smaller companies like Blogsvertise and BlogtoProfit trying to carve a piece of what seems to be a very active market with a lot of capital floating around.

One of the blogging “A List” Jason Calacis has been vocal in his opposition to PayPerPost in recent posts to his blog (here and here) and he makes some valid points that perhaps there should be declaration of the posts or similar rather than remaining convert. I agree as there is enough spam out there without having to see it reproduced in blog entries and if there was a requirement for some categories of PayPerPost to be required to carry a disclaimer that it was a paid post.

In the whole PayPerPost situation there is perhaps only one problem and its where Jason says “Keep the marketers out of your posts and inside the ad units!” and it is this. Unfortunately for the average blogger until the ad units can perform as well as the Paid posts, from a financial perspective its hard to turn down the offer of large amounts of cash for simple posts on their blogs. Perhaps for some, they also dislike the idea that the movement against companies like PayPerPost is coming not from the grass roots bloger but from people like Jason who have made a lot of money blogging and they just want their share?

So, there you have it. I don’t think PayPerPost is going away any time soon unless blogging for the average blogger can be made more financially attractive using ad units, they are going to keep going for the easy cash. Its only natural really.
