All power to the Bloggers

Earlier in the day I reported on one of the Uk Telegraph’s bloggers copying verbatim from a blogger’s post. I was not alone in covering it by any means but the power of the blogsphere has seen the Telegraph remove the offending article from its website. No apology or explaination made and saddly the journalist who copied the post appears to still be working there.
Whilst we in the blogsphere can now hail a victory for bloggers rights, the truth is very little will happen. She copied the article and it was deleted it when she got found out but truth be known she has committed all the sins the traditional media has criticised bloggers for. I don’t deny the fact that there are those blogs out there that do that but it doesn’t excuse a lazy journalist from ripping off a blogger.
Strangely it was not the only time in the last week that traditional journalists have misrepresented a blogger, with the New Statesman blaming the Blog Republic network for the complete downfall of blogging based on a single post that was actually a job ad. My best guess was either that the journalist was lazy and didn’t want to pick on one of the big networks (like Weblogs Inc or b5 media to name a couple) that have the resources to take the matter to the courts. I’m certain that the journalist wasn’t writing the article for free so why should us bloggers be denied payment either!
So a victory for people power and the power of the blogsphere but a dark day for traditional media.
